"I love that we have so much in common..."
"...like how we're both getting married on the same day." This was our FAVORITE line from Kevin's vows, and we think it perfectly encapsulates his and Malissa's laid-back, silly, and romantic wedding day at the Campus Club on the top floor of Coffman Memorial Union at the University of Minnesota.
We've known Malissa and Kevin for a few years, beginning when we took their engagement photos at the Stone Arch Bridge. They are such a sweet, chill, and goofy couple and we have felt so lucky to know them since day one. (We also captured a gorgeous pre-wedding session with them at Boom Island - check it out here!) We love that we share a Minnesota/India connection with them, and after all the Covid madness we were thrilled when they were able to plan their wedding because Malissa's family would finally be able to join them from India!
Their special day began by getting ready at the stunning Graduate Hotel at the University of Minnesota. Both Malissa and Kevin were so relaxed and smiley the entire time, and they kept checking in and reassuring each other that they looked amazing. It was so sweet!!
The ceremony was a sunny affair on the Campus Club terrace, with Kevin's sister officiating. The Northrup Mall directly behind and the Minneapolis skyline to the west created the perfect backdrop to the very personal (and thoughtful, and silly) nuptials. Their sweet dog Skye was the ring bearer - her tuxedo ensemble was absolutely adorable! - and even though she had practiced countless times at home, she still got so excited and rushed her way down the aisle to be with Mom and Dad!
We were able to sneak away during cocktail hour to take some couple portraits in front of Northrup Auditorium, and we couldn't be happier with how they turned out!! Malissa and Kevin are SO good in front of the camera, and their love truly shines through in these photos. Believe it or not, during this time they did a brief practice of their first dance, and Kevin ended up completely SPLITTING HIS PANTS! While it was far from ideal, the way that they handled the situation and the care that Malissa took to comfort Kevin was so admirable, and gave us a glimpse into their dynamics in the not-so-perfect moments, which we don't always get to see. It's truly a testament to the strength of a relationship when you can support one another in tough times, and no one proved that better than Malissa and Kevin in that moment. Luckily Kevin had a spare pair of pants back at the hotel only a few blocks away, and he was able to do a quick change and laugh about it with everyone later!
The reception was stunning as the sun set behind downtown Minneapolis and the delicate string lights began to illuminate the terrace. Guests from both sides danced to Bollywood music, sipped drinks, took Polaroids for the couple's guest book, and showered them with so much love. The couple's first dance was beautifully intimate, and ended with everyone having tears in their eyes - most of all the bride herself. As we ended the evening, the dance floor was still raging as the party carried into the night in celebration of Malissa and Kevin.
